Elevator is broken, again. On Monday July 27 a tenant was trapped inside the elevator, the elevator dropped a few feet. The tenant had to climb out between floors, from the pried open doors of the elevator that had previously dropped. The emergency button had been deactivate, which SDCI had been informed about in earlier complaints about the elevator, but closed out the complaint without doing an inspection or ensuring the emergency button worked. The elevator at the Tashiro Kaplan Artist Lofts, which is an LIHTC building, has been completely non-functional from June 8, 2026, to July 3, 2026. During that time, the elevator only operated sporadically for two or three non-consecutive days before breaking down for extended periods, and tenants have been getting trapped in the elevator for 15+ minutes at a time, only managing to eventually get help because they had their cell phone with them.
