Fire code complaint (SFC 1104.16) The elevator lobby on the roof/patio level requires a digitally scanned key to exit. In the event of a digital key malfunction and elevator shutdown, occupants are trapped in the room with no access to the fire escape. The lobby does not have an alternative exit.

In this building the rooftop patio can be accessed both via the elevator and the fire escape. However, the elevator room on the roof level requires a digitally scanned key to EXIT the indoor area onto the patio (but does not require a key to enter from the outside).
