I am a consulting arborist, I initially sent this by email to the arborists and SDCI and was advised to submit this here.I saw some concerning root cuts on a tier 2 three stemmed sawara cypress tree for a sidewalk repair. Cuts are very close to the trunk and are at least 6-8 inches in diameter. There was quite a bit of root material piled on the side of the street that had been removed. Today, a jackhammer was used to remove pavement on the sidewalk in front of the property and tree roots from a very large giant sequoia were cut. This cutting did not seem to be done by any type of certified arborist and will undoubtedly damage or kill the tree. According to maps, this is a private tree. Were permits issues to damage/kill this tree in this way?
